SGMY’s Review of Kotuwa Singapore
Kotuwa has become one of my favorite spots for authentic Sri Lankan food in Singapore. I recently tried a variety of dishes from their menu, and most of them were delightful.
One dish I highly recommend is their Lamb Shank Curry. The lamb was cooked till tender, and the red curry had a nice balance of spices that made it so addictive.
I also loved the Crab Cutlet—crispy on the outside with a creamy spiced crab filling inside. Perfect for those who enjoy a bit of crunch in their seafood.
For a unique snack, you have to try the Devilled Cashew. The jumbo cashews are fried with curry leaves and chili, making them spicy and super addictive. On the seafood side, I found the Isso Devil (stir-fried prawns) to be really flavorful with a good kick of heat.
However, the Dallo Baduma (crispy fried calamari) wasn’t as impressive. While the calamari was nicely fried, the overall taste felt a bit bland and lacked that punch of flavor I was expecting. I think it could do with a bit more seasoning or a stronger sauce to elevate it.
Despite that, the vegetarian dishes like the Kaju Curry, made with cashew nuts in a creamy coconut gravy, and the Polos Kottu, featuring baby jackfruit, were both rich and satisfying.
And of course, you can’t leave Kotuwa without trying the Watalappam Tart; the coconut custard with jaggery is heavenly and a great way to end the meal on a sweet note!
