SGMY’s Review Of The Malayan Council Singapore

I recently visited The Malayan Council and tried some of their signature dishes, and I have to say, most of the food really impressed me.

Their Beef Wellington was a standout. The wagyu beef was juicy, tender, and wrapped perfectly in puff pastry. It felt indulgent and satisfying.

Another favorite of mine was the Classic Ondeh-Ondeh Cake. The pandan flavor was spot-on, and the sweetness from the gula Melaka and coconut was just right – not too overwhelming.

The Curry Seafood Risotto was a delightful surprise too. The blend of seafood with a creamy curry sauce was comforting, and the prawns were cooked to perfection.

If you’re into durian, the Durian Pengat Cake is a must-try. The rich durian filling with the gula Melaka drizzle gave it a unique, bold flavor that was surprisingly good.

But, I have to be honest – the Sotong Hitam Seafood Pasta was a bit too intense for my taste. The squid ink sauce was rich, but I found it slightly overpowering, and it masked the natural sweetness of the seafood. However, the portion was generous, and seafood lovers might still enjoy it.

For dessert, I couldn’t resist the Sticky Date Pudding. It was warm, moist, and filled with that delicious toffee flavor that made it the perfect sweet ending to the meal.
